  6.        DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
  7.  
  8.        Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try  software
  9.        before  buying  it.  If you try a Shareware program and con-
  10.        tinue using it, you are    expected  to  register.     Individual
  11.        programs     differ     on  details  --  some request registration
  12.        while others  require  it,  some     specify  a  maximum  trial
  13.        period.    With registration, you get anything from the simple
  14.        right to    continue using the software to an  updated  program
  15.        with printed manual.

  17.        Copyright  laws    apply  to  both     Shareware  and     commercial
  18.        software,  and the copyright holder retains all rights, with
  19.        a few specific exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors
  20.        are  accomplished programmers, just like    commercial authors,
  21.        and the programs    are of comparable quality. (In both  cases,
  22.        there  are  good    programs and bad ones!)    The main difference
  23.        is in the method    of distribution.  The  author  specifically
  24.        grants the right    to copy    and distribute the software, either
  25.        to all and sundry or to a specific group. For example,  some
  26.        authors    require    written    permission before a commercial disk
  27.        vendor may copy their Shareware.

  29.        Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of  software.
  30.        You  should  find software that suits your needs    and pocket-
  31.        book, whether it's commercial or     Shareware.  The  Shareware
  32.        system  makes fitting your needs    easier,    because    you can    try
  33.        before you buy.    And because the    overhead is low, prices    are
  34.        low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee --
  35.        if you don't use    the product, you don't pay for it.

  37.        DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT

  39.        Users of    WinXs must  accept  this  disclaimer  of  warranty:
  40.        WinXs  is  supplied as is.  The author disclaims    all warran-
  41.        ties, expressed or implied, including,  without    limitation,
  42.        the  warranties    of  merchantability  and of fitness for    any
  43.        purpose.     The  author  assumes  no  liability  for  damages,
  44.        direct  or  consequential,  which may result from the use of
  45.        WinXs.

  47.        WinXs is    a "shareware program" and is provided at no  charge
  48.        to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your
  49.        friends,    but please do not give it away altered or  as  part
  50.        of another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software
  51.        is to provide personal computer users with quality  software
  52.        without    high  prices, and yet to provide incentive for pro-
  53.        grammers    to continue to develop new products.  If  you  find
  54.        this  program  useful  and find that you    are using WinXs    and
  55.        continue    to use WinXs after a reasonable    trial  period,    you
  56.        must  make a registration payment of $18    to the author.    The
  57.        $18 registration    fee will license one copy for  use  on    any
  58.        one  computer at    any one    time.  You must    treat this software
  59.        just like a book.  An example is    that this software  may     be
  60.        used  by     any  number of    people and may be freely moved from
  61.        one computer location to    another, so long  as  there  is     no
  62.        possibility  of    it  being  used     at one    location while it's
  63.        being used at another.  Just as a book cannot be    read by    two
  64.        different persons at the    same time.

  66.        Commercial users    of WinXs must register and  pay     for  their
  67.        copies of WinXs within 30 days of first use or their license
  68.        is withdrawn.  Site-License arrangements    may be made by con-
  69.        tacting the author.

  71.        Anyone distributing WinXs for any kind of remuneration  must
  72.        first  contact  the  author at the address given    in the file
  73.        REGISTER.TXT for    authorization.    This authorization will     be
  74.        automatically  granted  to  distributors     recognized  by    the
  75.        (ASP) as    adhering to its    guidelines for shareware  distribu-
  76.        tors, and such distributors may begin offering WinXs immedi-
  77.        ately (However the author must still be advised so that    the
  78.        distributor  can     be kept up-to-date with the latest version
  79.        of WinXs).

  81.        You are encouraged to pass a copy of  WinXs  along  to  your
  82.        friends    for  evaluation.  Please encourage them    to register
  83.        their  copy  if    they  find  that  they    can  use  it.    All
  84.        registered  users  will receive a copy of the latest version
  85.        of the WinXs system.

  90.        Shareware  Professionals    (ASP).    ASP wants to make sure that
  91.        the shareware principle works for you.  If you are unable to
